I really enjoyed this although i was annoyed by the trip back to the war, I felt it was totally unnecessary in a book meant to be about private investigations. It didn't really add to the storyline and could all have been covered by a couple of short paragraphs. However i might well follow this series

Full disclosure...I am a huge fan of any book British, especially set in the early to mid century. And Maisie Dobbs captures the spirit 100%! Set in 1929, but seamlessly moving back and forth into the Great War....this novel sets the stage beautifully for the reader to discover, fall in love and champion Maisie Dobbs. The book is less about the "mystery" and more about getting to know the world as it was then - how a generation grew up, changed the world and defined feminism all while going thro

This is one of my all time favorite series'! Maisie Dobbs is a complex, deep, and intriguing character.

This is the first in a series - and I can't wait to continue reading the series! It is set partly in WWI and partly about a decade later, and I do love stories that move back and forth between different times. Maisie Dobbs is a different sleuth to the ones I've read so far - there's something a little magical about her! I think if she'd been born in Ireland, she'd have been called "fey" - if she'd been born in Reformation times, she might have been burned as a witch! I can't wait to keep reading
