This was my second attempt at a P.D. James mystery, and the beginning was intriguing what with 20-something Cordelia finding herself the sole proprietor of a private investigation business after the sudden death of her partner. She attempts to solve her first solo case, when a renowned scientist asks her to look into the motive behind his Cambridge-dropout son's suicide, and my interest flagged when we met the son's stuffy coed college pals.
