I thought this book was much older than it really was. Published sometime in the 1980's originally, somehow I had it in my brain that it was from the 50's or even 60's. This slight change in era changed my view of the story. The children are a little annoying but they do grow and mature by the end of the book. Not the best children's book, but I can see why it won awards.
