I enjoy the works of Paul Auster, in 4 3 2 1 he has produced a blockbuster and yet it leaves me in two minds. his writing is superb the characterisation and drive in the narrative keeps the reader interested for the most part. There are many excerpts i could include that are profound and have impact on everyday life BUT at times it is like he has verbal diarrhoea - he lists every book he has read, every film that he has seen- his eye for detail goes into overdrive. Long, plot-less and quite confusing at times, four identical babies whose lives diverge due to the events and choices they and the people around them make. Very well written and I was thinking the ending was going to be a bit of a damp squib but he managed to pull it all together into a satisfying end.
