This book, which was on a lot of "best of" lists when it came out, did in fact live up to my expectations. It is completely readable, thanks to Grann's writing skills - I want to look for some others by him now. One of the main story lines is that of Percy Fawcett, a British explorer, who had taken several trips into the Amazon before taking his final one in 1925 - when he disappeared without a trace. This is an interesting story that combines history and investigative journalism in a tale of Amazon exploration and obsession. The author traces the many voyages of Percy Fawcett in the South American jungle, detailing his obsession with a mythical city that he refers to as "Z". Much of what I enjoyed about this book was the factual information about the Amazon rain forest and it's intriguing flora and fauna.
