A good, make-you-think type of book.

This book is written with an audience of white women in mind. I give Picoult credit for taking on racism and racial inequity/inequality in such a direct way, and this book definitely makes me think more specifically about my role in this. I do wish Ruth and Adisa and Edison had more parts in this story. The ending would have been stronger if it came from Ruth’s perspective instead of Turk’s perspective. It was wrapped up a little too nicely for me. Would give it 3.5 stars if allowed.
