I don't really know how to review this book. I feel like it could have very easily been two separate stories: the magical realism of Roza's tale and the lovely story of Finn and Petey. I loved the writing in this novel, I felt that Finn's ability to see things differently came through in the beautifully written prose, and I loved the setting and the descriptions used by the author to tell of this small town. Honestly, I needed more explanation about this man. I thought the book was a standard mystery but then it turned into something more fantastical. I loved Finn and Roza but found all of the other characters intolerable. Was this how I was supposed to feel? The writing was excellent, but it was the characters that made me inclined to rate it 3 stars. I felt so bad for Finn ALL the time, yet I get the environment. I get the small town gossip.
