This was a super compelling realistic novel, with parts that were completely devastating (if you've read it, you know exactly what I mean). I felt that the religious trauma was a little less filled in than I liked and would have expected from the title, but overall this novel promises great things in the future from this author.

This is one of those books that could have been so much better if the author made different choices at the halfway point.
Although it's young adult, the writing and deep attention to character details -- including flaws -- make it "read" more like literary fiction featuring teenagers. Beautiful and heartbreaking
I was not expecting to love this book the way I did. The prose is beautiful, and the characters feel like real, flawed human beings. I was sad when my time with them came to an end!

A stunning debut. I will definitely be looking for more by this author. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
