Kingsolver's latest has the same rich language and collection of characters that I love in all her fiction. Sometimes she is almost sickeningly clever. She can't help but temper her brilliance with a dose of preachiness however...another aspect of her writing that I have come to expect. There are two scenes in the book in particular where I was waiting for a soap box to show up in the text. Still, a marvelous work about global warming, poverty, education, faith, and family ties.

I thought this was an interesting book. I liked Dellarobia, although she could be a little frustrating at times. The book was very respectful of the science as well as the people of the rural community. I did feel like the author only gave us glimpses of the supporting characters. Although it is Dellarobia's story, I wish some of the other characters were given more substance. I felt like we got glimpses, but no more. Overall it was an interesting story with a lot of science and natural history.

Very thought-provoking. I love Kingsolver's characters in this story and the way she makes them extremely believable, with lives that extend beyond the borders of the novel. I listened to the audiobook and the author's voice is wonderful. I've been noticing butterflies everywhere since I started reading this book.
