Phew - what a ride! I could not put this book down and, although granted I am slightly emotional right at the moment, after literally holding my breath for pages and pages, I actually had tears in my eyes at the very end. In this book, Gamache who, by the end of the previous book looked like he had been beaten by Francoeur, had lost his partner, Jean-Guy Beauvoir and was heading for disaster, finally uncovers a conspiracy which has been building for about the last 5 or 6 books in the series. This is my favorite in the series so far. I think one of my favorite things about penny’s writing is how flawed but good and forgiving her characters are. I also love the history and always search out more info on what inspires the novels. This one stood out for both the murder at the forefront and the continuing story and relationships running in the background!
Loved this book! Louise Penny has outdone herself! My only regret is that I read it too quickly - now I am done.

This is such a great series. I want to read the next one-#10-but there is only a few left, and want to spread them out. Good plan but probably won’t be able to.lol
