What Members Thought

This book was terrific. The brutality of World War I is shown from a first-hand perspective, mixed in with the cultural significance of a pair of Native American soldiers fighting a white-man's war. I loved the way the mysticism and spirituality of the Canadian Cree Indians is shown in accurate detail. Highly recommend!

Amazing. Fascinating book about the terrors of war and the heritage of Native Canadians. Elijah, Xavier, and Niska were excellent characters. Each were strong and weak in their own ways. I loved the parallel story of the windigos; those who eat human flesh, and the metaphor that war turns everyone into a windigo. Wonderful book.

This book absolutely destroyed me. A must read.

Haunting. War is brutal. Recovering is brutal.
