Wow. This was a powerful short novel. I have read many stories about WWII and this is the first one of this nature. This reads almost like a diary recount of these days/months/years spent in the concentration camps. Such horrors and heartbreak.

This book was recommended to me by grad students in my Children's Lit class at BC. It's currently being read in high schools. I read it in 1 day and now have to write a paper that includes analyzing the message, genre, narrative, point of view, etc. I am so glad I read this book even though the visualizations of the concentration camp, the beatings, and hunger that overtook these innocent souls will remain with me for rest of my life. It's this type of YA novel that sticks with you..... read it

There were many similarities to other accounts I have read, but this one was excellent. I also really liked reading the Nobel acceptance speech at the end of the story. It was very inspiring.
