Nick and Amy are in a strained marriage after both lost their NYC jobs and had to move to a small community in Missouri located on the Mississippi River so Nick could take care of his ailing parents. When Nick returns home late on their 5th wedding anniversary, he discovered Amy isn't there. He discovered the living room in disarray as if there had been a struggle. After hours pass without any word from Amy, Nick reports her absence to the police, especially since none of her clothing has been r

Sweet Jeebus thank God that's finally over. I didn't think I'd ever get to the end. It was so incredibly BORING. Even when I finally got to the infamous "omg" moment it still wasn't enough to save the book. Then after the initial surprise moment it went right back to the tedious never-ending story I've come to know and loathe.

I usually am not one to write reviews, but this book has left me feeling so frustrated when I finished. On one hand, I was utterly engrossed in the story, not able to put the book down because I just HAD to find out what crazy crap was going to happen next. Even knowing that there was some sort of plot twist, I thought the storyline was clever. On the other hand, I hated every character in the book. In the end I didn't even really care what happened, because I figured they all deserved what they

I am very conflicted about the rating of this novel. I thought the book was well written, intriguing, and I enjoyed reading it until the end! I thought the ending just fell flat and did not do the rest of the book justice. Plus, I just flat out did not like the ending! Added to that there wasn't much to like about the characters....I didn't really want to root for either one to come out in top.

This book takes readers on quite a ride. A woman, Amy, goes missing in violent circumstances. Her husband increasingly comes under suspicion. The first part of the story is told by the husband and Amy's diary.
I guess this is called a psychological mystery. Much of the story is about what is happening in the minds of the main characters.
One character, Desi, bothered me in that he is creepily from the past, located nearby and his psychology is unclear.

i honestly dont get the deal with this book? the characters are flat and one dimensional, the premise implausible, bordering on ridiculous, resolved by a load of deux ex machinas. the only explanation i have for why this book is so popular is that its like popcorn, tasty, but has little nutritional value otherwise :/
I loved this book right up until the end when I wanted to throw it across the room. However, after stewing with it a while, I decided I still loved it for making me have such a strong reaction to it. There were enough plot twists to keep me guessing, even though I had certain things figured out before I read them.
I would recommend the book, but without giving away spoilers, be prepared to scream, "WHAT THE F*CK!" when you're done. ...more
