This book gives you the ultimate in unreliable narrators- a husband and wife team. You can't take anything that either Nick or Amy say at face value.
No way to talk about the book without SPOILERS********
so be warned.
The theme of the book seems to be about how we both long for and fear being truly known. Nick begins to cut himself off from Amy after he loses his job and begins drifting, knowing that she's seeing him at his worst. Amy despises Nick for not seeing past her "Cool Girl" facade to t ...more

Well what can I say, I read the book. I haven't seen the movie so nothing was spoiled for me. I didn't find this book a thriller or very suspenseful. There were moments of suspense but not throughout the whole book. I usually don't care for books that go back and forth between people or time. That did not bother me but I did fell like reading all of Nick or all of Amy sometimes.

This is a brilliantly written thriller. The story keeps twisting and turning, she keeps you interested and even when you predict the next turn, you are still surprised. Flynn clearly has done her research on how a psycopath sees the world.

The book suffered, because I'd already seen the movie. So no surprises. I don't really know how to review the book and not the movie. I enjoyed the murkiness. I didn't know who to like, who to root for. I'm thinking Ben Affleck wasn't the right choice, though. I'm not really sure.

I was so intrigued the whole time; I couldn't stop reading. I think I saw the second half coming, but the "twist" at end, I definitely didn't. I liked the alternating perspectives.
