I listened to this as an audiobook. At first I wasn’t sure whether I would like it - it seemed like it might be a bit wishy-washy, but it was actually very cleverly written.
I can’t actually describe why it is so well-written, or what it was I liked so much about it. It made me chuckle as I listened to it and people were talking at cross-purposes but thinking they understood each other. I can describe the basic plot, but it is something that you really need to read for yourself, I think.

This would not have been a book that I would have chosen for myself. As the library book group read it was delightful, charming and witty. von Arnim writes lyrically and with a sharp sense of ironic wit. Her characterisation is excellent and I both loved and hated some of the characters in equal measure. I wanted a little more from the ending but overall a surprising and enjoyable read
This book was a joy to read. It made me want to be wildly and conspicuously happy and to have that happiness rub off on everyone around me.
