A Tree Grows in Brooklyn is the classic coming of age story about a poor girl growing up in Brooklyn in the early 20th century. It was a moving story that sucked me in. I love how Smith made the time and place come alive. The characters were great, they all were layered and dimensional. I fell in love with many of the supporting characters, as well as Francie. It is a story about survival, growing up, and moving on. I would definitely recommend it to others.
