What Members Thought
This will be the first book I have even placed on my page...so here goes. Loved it!!! I thought I had read it years ago, but every time I turned a page I kept thinking that nothing seemed familiar and I couldn't remember anything or anyone about the story. 20th-century
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn is the classic coming of age story about a poor girl growing up in Brooklyn in the early 20th century. It was a moving story that sucked me in. I love how Smith made the time and place come alive. The characters were great, they all were layered and dimensional. I fell in love with many of the supporting characters, as well as Francie. It is a story about survival, growing up, and moving on. I would definitely recommend it to others.
This was kind of in the class of Little Women. There was really no traditional plot; there wasn't a climax in the least. Really, this is a story of a girl's life. It is a collection of pictures, a biography. You'll either love it or hate it.
