I really enjoyed reading this book. Its written from the perspective of an 11 to 14 year old girl who lives in Brooklyn prior to WWI. Rather than being a story, it was more like a compilation of stories, or a memoir of her life. It talks about her family, and why they are the way the are. It also talks about where they came from, and what it was like to grow up in the poor areas of brooklyn at that time. I'll admit it, there's very little I actually remember about this book, but it was my first summer reading assignment for high school and I loved it at the time. This is constantly taunting me on my bookshelf.

What a wonderful book! I just adore Francy, the central character, and her whole family of unique individuals. It's a story of live and of truth and the beauty of everyday things.
