This child's woman is a monster. The story is of Dave's younger childhood, and the abuse he suffered at the hands of his angry mother. His other brothers didn't suffer the abuse that he did, which included sleeping in the garage, starvation, and inhaling of ammonia/bleach fumes. The book is written simply, and according to the author, is to reflect his age at the time.
