I cannot believe i have never read or indeed seen the TV adaptations of this book. I have loved every minute of it. The characterisations wonderfully done and sits so well in the time period. I loved the additions from the manuscript copy. I find it difficult to believe that kit is defined as a children's book there is so much depth that i would not have seen as a child ...more

Despite the fact that this was my first time reading Anne of Green Gables, having missed it somehow in my childhood, I still felt a pleasant kind of nostalgia reading it. It reminded me of books that I did read and love as a child, like those by Laura Ingalls Wilder or Frances Hodgson Burnett. Anne of Green Gables fit right in for me among those stories, and gave me that old familiar pleasure of reading about the daily life of charming characters who live in beautiful countrysides.

A wonderful story about a strong willed, imaginative, intrinsically driven girl who always sees the beauty and possibility around her. She's adopted by a brother and sister and changes everyone around her lives for the better. She gets into trouble and has wild adventures. The language reads like a classic, but is a bit more accessible. I've wanted to read this for so long and I'm glad it was chosen for my daughters book club. ...more
