ATY 2019 32. A book with more than 500 pages
Ok, I thought I had made 2 previous attempts to read this and had yet to finish it... I was reading this a third time, waiting to get to the point that I'd left off and it never came! So apparently I have read this before and the 2nd book is the one I hadn't finished. I'm glad I read this again though because I forgot quite a bit and I feel like I finally have all the characters straight. Looking forward to #2. ...more

Weird but epic! Medical research goes wrong when the military steps in to "support" resulting in a The Stand culling of humanity. Long winded and lots to keep track of but I like that in a book especially on a quiet, rainy holiday week. Definitely gripped by the trilogy.

A fabulous, creative book. The protagonist is amazing, but so are all the other characters. They are real, with faults and good qualities.

I tried reading this book 2 or 3 times before and would get to one certain poi t and stop. But this time I just kept on going and then couldn't stop. At first it seemed like a copycat of The Stand and there are definitely some similarities. But I ended up thinking it was a really compelling read, good character development with just the right amount of mysticism to bring me in.

For some reason this one trudged along for me for a while. Without spoilers I'll just say there was a sudden change of course midway through and the whiplash was tough for me to adjust to. In the end it was entirely worth it and I intend to continue the series. Call me a sucker for a cliffhanger.
