I really enjoyed this, but is it 'The Stand' for the 21st century? It reminded me of a Stephen King novel (which I consider that a compliment--I think he gets short shrift because he's a genre writer) in all the ways I like Stephen King: a lot of detail in the backstories of various characters (but never tedious or boring); enough tension to keep me reading way past my bedtime but not so scary I was afraid to turn off the lights; realistic dialogue; and the characters' actions don't seem complet ...more

Oh my goodness! This has been on my TBR for over 4 years, and I am just now reading (well, listening to) it. I do know why the book languished on the TBR; it was because of its length. That is why I decided to read it in audiobook form.

What a good book! It is interesting, amazing, tragic, mysterious, and just plain well-written. I will definitely look for another book by this author.

The only drawback to me was that I am visual and probably would have more easily followed the various characters ...more

I would have given this book 4 stars had it been about 200 pages shorter. An enjoyable read, but there were points where it felt that the author could have stopped and picked up the story in another book.
