It was well-written, powerful, and depressing as hell. That's pretty much Steinbeck in a nutshell, isn't it? I liked it a lot better than The Red Pony, but not as much as Grapes of Wrath. Heh. I appear to be reading one Steinbeck book every 10-15 years. I guess I’ll check out East of Eden in 2033. I bet it’s well-written, powerful, and depressing as hell.

One of the best books I have read so far in this year.
Hated this book and hated the ending! However, since reading it, I find that I can't stop thinking about it and the characters. I think that was quite possibly what the author intended and therefore I must say, everyone should read this book.

A different review said, "Packs a lot into a little." That's about it, isn't it? It's not the most in the least I've ever seen, but it does what it does with a succinctness that appeals to me.
