I have started a lot of new series lately, but this one would have to be up there as one of my favourites. I will admit, I did have to work hard throughout the book to fully understand the world and the rules which applied within it, but Kate was just such a brilliant heroine that it was definitely worth the effort. Paranormal fantasy is just not my thing, but this was really quite fun to read. I loved that the main character is a kick-ass woman who does not suffer fools (or vampires or shapeshifters or demons, etc) lightly. Kate Daniels is a strong woman in both body and mind, and that’s only part of what makes her a successful mercenary.

There were parts of the story line that reminded me of Jim Butcher’s Dresden Files stories. Both deal with the various faction ...more

When I started GR, my primary genre was mystery. I didn't even know what Urban Fantasy was and certainly never desired to read any Paranormal genres. Well, if you read enough and participate in enough challenges, sooner or later your reading will expand to other genres.

I picked up this book for a challenge and because I had read and enjoyed another book by Ilona Andrews, a husband - wife writing team.
