So after finally finishing this, I think I will need some strong incentive to read the rest of the series, and I have bought the entire series! I found it very disjointed and far too easy to put down.

Re-read Sep/13 before reading Magic Burns. Fingers crossed the 2nd is better than the 1st as I have all of the series on my TBR

Quite a fascinating bit of world-building. Kate Daniels is a ferocious heroine, although she is fairly egocentric, only thinking about the trouble she causes after the fact when people are already hurt or dead. I think I like her, though, but will have to see. The magical & paranormal creatures seem interesting, those vampires are surprising, & they would appear to be charging around some sort of dystopian, future Earth. I thought Cross was a bit shifty, too, so I understand Kate's mistake, even ...more

Absorbing and amazing

The world was amazing, I liked the blend of tech and magic. I liked Kate and the rest of the characters. The mystery dragged me in and absorbed me until I had finished it. Its a bit gritty, but good.
