I know I’m so late to the game in reading this book, but once I started I literally could not put it down! I love Moriarty’s books! Always gripping and they keep you guessing. Can I say without spoiling that I was sooooo satisfied with how this book wrapped up? If you haven’t read it yet, you must!

Wow. I liked this book. How the author wrote a story about domestic abuse that was also funny, I don't know. Maybe it was the character of Madeline, who couldn't be cowed by anyone. She said the funniest things. On the serious side, if you want to find out how a victim of domestic abuse thinks about her situation, read this. ...more

I've really enjoyed all Liane Moriarty's books, but this one was a 5 star for me. For a 5 star, it has to pull at my emotions - and it did. I also stayed up way too late reading to try to find out what exactly happened.

It's not really chick lit and it's not a true mystery (in that you have a body and need to know whodunnit). There is a body but we don't even know whose body it is until near the end. I'd call it light contemporary that is easy reading but makes you think and has a twist to it.

I just realized I don't have an "abuse" shelf on here, but wow this book had a lot of abuse in it.

I have to admit, when I saw the cover of this book when I was shelving it, I was not interested in it. It seemed like a fluff book but then when HBO came out with the mini-series and I saw a trailer for it, I thought "holy shit, this was not what I was expecting it to be."

So, here are my thoughts:

Please read the book before you watch the show. I made the mistake of watching the show and the whole ti

I really enjoyed this there were a lot of characters who are well drawn and memorable. The author builds her narrative around them and and relates it to one specific event in their social calendar. The story builds gradually and with some mystery surrounding it. Moriary builds the picture expertly and my guesses as to the victim changed alongside this but i had no idea who it really was. The author has captured the ambience of the school playground, the yummy mummies and the power holders so wel ...more

This didn't feel like reading 400+ pages as it sure was a page-turner kind of book. Liane Moriarty built up the characters so well, it felt like her narration was very engaging. And that plot twist, I. DID. NOT. SEE. THAT. COMING.

Or maybe I am just purely naive.

I'll definitely add this to my "Books To Cure Your Reading Slump" list.
