My experience with Jane Austen so far has mostly been through TV and movies, with the exception of Pride and Prejudice. So I've decided to read all of her other novels. Mansfield Park was a great one to start with. The protagonist is very relatable, very honest, and always kind. She struggles with jealousy as her cousin appears to have interest in other young women, but she never speaks ill of anyone, even those that deserve it. This book literally took me all summer to read. It wasn't bad, it was just slow, and I was easily distracted by other books. I don't read a lot of classics because there tends to be very little plot and very heavy descriptions and characterizations. I'm a plot kind of reader, so these types of books always bog me down. That said, I did enjoy this book. I feel like it was more a social commentary than Pride and Prejudice (the only other Austen novel I've read). I could see how she was poking fun
