This is one of those books that inspires complicated feelings. Is it possible to write a book about teens and suicide that doesn't inspire complicated feelings? I've certainly never read one -- but it's something writers need to keep writing about, and that we need to keep talking about.
My biggest qualm with YA suicide books is that I always fear they run the risk of romanticizing the issue, and that is particularly true when the suicide is contextualized within a romantic relationship as it is ...more

When I purchased this book, I knew that it was going to be a sad book. I knew it dealt with tough topics relating to loss and suicide but I had no idea how the story would transpire, or what led Violet and Theodore to the ledge in the bell tower where they met.
I had no idea that this book was going to so totally and thoroughly destroy me. I listened to the audio version of this book, which was probably a good thing because I spent the last 50 or so pages hysterically ugly crying.

I feel like I kind of fell into this book. I wasn't really hooked at the beginning, but eventually I was completely pulled in. One point of interest: the characters travel to a site in my hometown that is literally right down the street from my house.

This book is stupid. I'm mad I read it. The characters are superficial and the plot is totally contrived. Also, I'm going to say it: THEODORE FINCH IS A GODDAM ASSHOLE.
