This novel is an example of “magical realism” gone bad.
I raced through 600 pages to get to what I had hoped would be a stunning ending. Instead, I got nothing. Absolutely nothing.
600 pages could have been condensed into less than 100. Am I happy that I finally read this novel? Yes, I’m happy to finally check it off of my bucket list. However, I didn’t learn anything, and I don’t feel enlightened from the experience. Instead, I just feel nothing.
