I read this book warily, bored to tears of the helplessly emotional female leads so common among popular YA fiction. Katniss Everdeen is an exceptional heroine. Tough, clever, and above all, competent, she won me over in the first few chapters. I couldn't believe Suzanne Collins bravery, she doesn't write down to you at all, giving you the credit to see her main character's brittle, almost heartless front for what it was, the first layer to a very dynamic character.
