I am so appalled. Not since Colleen Hoover's Maybe Someday have I hated a book THIS much. If I owned a paperback copy of this book, I would build a pyre & watch this book burn.
I did NOT find humor in Sedaris's jokes regarding feline leukemia, dogs getting run over, pet euthanasia (or any other scenario in which a dog or a cat suffered harm). IMO, his joke regarding his pet's need for dialysis was especially scathing since I lost my beloved 18-year old shih tzu to chronic kidney failure last year ...more

David Sedaris is hilarious in person, but I have to say, I had to force myself to finish this book. It was okay, but I don't think short nonfiction essays are my thing. And the only two I can actually remember, now that I'm done, were the ones where he mentioned his parents having a Great Dane (because I have a Great Dane and they are AWESOME.) and the one with the epically massive poo. Because, come on. Poo stories are hilarious, most of the time.
