BBC Big Read #42 for me. I enjoyed this one far more than expected. It was not a page turner but it was beautifully written book about two young lovers Fermina Daza and Florentino Ariza. Fermina ends things with Florentino and he spends his life hoping for her love once again. Fermina marries a young doctor and they are married for 50 years. It’s not till Fermina is a widow that Florentino pursues her once again.

I wish that I could have read this novel in Spanish. As with most of Marquez's work (and in particular, "One Hundred Years of Solitude"), I feel as if I lose something in the translation from Spanish to English…. Regardless, I found "Love in the Time of Cholera" to be a splendid piece of historical fiction. *4/5 stars* ...more
