I now remember why I disliked these books so much as a kid. I was such a precocious reader— when I was 8 years old, I read every biography on The Beatles that was available at the time. When I was 9, my Mom was horrified to catch me reading Lolita. She tried to rein me in by forcing me to read Little House on the Prairie and anything & everything by Judy Blume. Her efforts (although admirable) only pushed me further away from Children's Literature & firmly into the realm of Adult Fiction.
