7/2025 reread: 3.5 stars - It’s been a while since I read this, 5+ years, and I didn’t remember much, but it was fun and entertaining, except for the tedious dive into the Buggins family tree. Reread for an upcoming buddy read in the Reading the Detectives group - turns out it was a delightful mid-summer read. Couldn't get past chapter 2 of this. Every flipping paragraph a new name to learn. So far 80% names, names, names.

I counted about 39 names in the first two chapters.

Lazy and unimaginative writing.

It's an average MacLeod, so obviously what I'm into at the moment, but I don't think it's one of the better ones. ...more

Glad to be back at the college but I got a bit lost in the Biggins family tree, perhaps as I was listening and my mind will wander.
