This is the tenth book in the Brunetti series. All long-running series evolve because of characters, rather than plot, and, in this novel, Leon explores the complicated relationship between Brunetti and Signorina Elettra. So far, we have only seen Elettra as competent, perfect, a source of knowledge, always flipping through a magazine or arranging flowers. In this book she will go undercover, allowing Leon to take her out of the office and put her in danger.

A favorite in a favorite series. An regulator character takes on a new role, the location is a bit different, and there is a thrilling storm-tossed ending.

Not so good. Fairly slow novel in which little happens for 80% of the book, with a dramatic "shipwreck" like final chapter. Brunetti is investigating the murder of two fisherman on the Venetian island of Pellestrina - a very tight knit community where no one is prepared to help the police or speak badly of their neighbours. pretty enjoyable. exciting finish when brunetti goes out in a terrible storm, a bora, in the police launch after the killer who has Signora Elettra on his boat. leon pretty effectively draws the picture of the storm.
