This is the first in Anne Cleeves Shetland series. Although I love crime novels, I had not read any of this author’s books before, but I am pleased that I finally did get around to it, as this was an excellent book, with interesting characters and a good setting.

I thoroughly enjoyed this and found the book Perez* a very intriguing character. A good atmospheric mystery with great characterisation. I am keen to read the rest of the series.

So well done.

Raven Black is an excellent mystery that is deeply wrapped up in the sense of "place." Every bit, every character is reflective of the setting. But more then that it's an excellent mystery that introduced the reader the Inspector Perez and the islands themselves. I absolute didn't see the ending coming until it arrived. ...more
