Another great outing with Marcus Didius Falco, back on track in Rome after his last adventure in Spain.

This time, the new father is in pursuit of a serial killer who strikes during public holidays and games, abducting and butchering young women and disposing of their body parts in the Roman aqueducts. Falco and his new business partner and old friend Petronius are standing near a clogged public fountain when a worker unclogs it - and out pops a severed hand.

This was a really enjoyable book in the Falco series. Back from Spain with Helena and baby Julia, Falco becomes involved with a serial killer who is murdering women after the Games and leaving parts of the body in the water around Rome, so parts end up in the aqueducts. This causes something of a panic in Rome, mainly with people concerned about the state of the water, than the fates of the ladies going missing.

A more grisly than usual Falco whodunnit, as usual with a lesson in Roman social history from the author, this time about Rome's magnificent water supply system.
