With the impression that I had enjoyed my first Bobby Owen mystery Diabolic Candelabra less than I’d hoped (my very short review doesn’t mention much except the slower pacing than I’d expected), I was a little apprehensive picking up this one, but from opening page on, the humorous and wonderful writing captured my attention and with that and a quite complicated mystery with a few different elements, I enjoyed the book very very much.

A small village just outside Bobby's jurisdiction seems to be having troubles of a religious nature, and so Bobby is asked to go there before a riot takes place. When he arrives there is a huge man talking about a vision he has and it is very anti-church like, upsetting the villagers, it also seems that he has hit a man who has fallen in a stream. However, it seems the man was one of the huge man's followers, and had been rescued by a young man. Bobby manages to break up the crowd with the help ...more
