The fourth in the Commissario Brunetti series is a darker and more defeated book than the previous novels. This is a novel is which Leon allows Brunetti to feel his powerlessness and his rage, as his investigation into the murder of a corporate international lawyer leads him into the world of people smuggling, prostitution and murder.

4.5 stars, this series just gets better with each book. I’m so glad I started at the beginning, and that Leon has so many mysteries to look forward to in the Commissario Brunetti series, set in modern-day Venice.
Well, this book is set in the late 1990s, with things like internet still new enough that it creates a running joke of sorts between Brunetti and Elettra, hyper-efficient secretary to his ridiculous boss, Patta. He’s another running joke, with his social climbing and love of luxuries.

I have yet to figure out how many of Brunetti books I have listened. I know have not read or listened to them in order. But after you have listened to a few, you can piece together what is going on.
I love Guido, but I think my favorite characters are Paola, Chiara, and Signorina Electra. They keep Guido on his toes.
