Having hugely enjoyed the first two, I have managed to track down the next in the series of Inspector Brunetti novels, although unfortunately #3 to #6 are only available in paperback (not on Kindle) so I have raided second hand sources. This is a brilliant story of a set of murders backed by very unpleasant corruption in the Venetian body politic. I did like this but found that the absence of Brunetti's family did take away a certain sense of humour the previous books contained. I also found I didn't want to know exactly how Brunetti was cooking his meals. I felt there were a few places where this book could have been edited better. Having said that I did think the overall plot was good, and once again showed how corrupt, and discriminate the law and government were.

Excellent series with a wonderful sense of place and a sympathetic detective with an attractive family. The plot in this one highlights the deaths of innocents killed for the convenience of the guilty.
