A lunchtime Listen ( May 2022)
I think this is now the second Maigret that has a been a lunchtime ;listen for my wife and I. With most of the renovation on the house complete these are an excellent series of books as they are all only about 4 hrs long. So a few long lunchtimes and you've heard the whole story.

Another great Maigret tinged with the mysterious yellow dog appearing when a crime occurs. Set in a French seaside town. A man leaves a cafe late in the evening on a rainy windy night and stops in a doorway and is shot in the stomach. Who shot him and why. Maigret is called in and while talking the friends of the victim a doctor notices their drinks are doctored which turns out to be strychnine.

2024 reread via full cast audiobook. This audiobook claims to be unabridged but as it is a dramatization, it wasn't the full book. Still quite enjoyable though. ...more

Book number 6. This time Maigret is in Corncarneau, on the French coast, on some sort of secondment. An attempted murder, poisoning, small town squabbles, repeated appearances of a yellow haired dog, and an historical smuggling offence provide Maigret with a complex set of interrelated crimes to solve. In some ways it all comes to easy - he seems to have worked it all out in the first few chapters and then used the rest of the book to gather necessary supporting evidence.
