2024 reread via full cast audiobook. This audiobook claims to be unabridged but as it is a dramatization, it wasn't the full book. Still quite enjoyable though. ...more

The Yellow Dog is all about a stormy week in the coastal town of Concarneau. It starts with the shooting of Monsieur Mostaguen, a local wine merchant who doesn't have an enemy in the world. Inspector Maigret is called in to investigate, but before he can get very far there are more mysterious happenings. Poison in the customary drinks of a set of prominent citizens who often play cards and drink together. Then one of their number disappears, leaving an empty car and bloodstains behind. I really am enjoying these Maigret stories. This one starts with a shooting of a man who has had too much to drink, and on leaving the café where he has been drinking, decides to smoke a cigar. To remove himself from the blowing wind he steps inside the front of an empty building. Here, he is shot and thought to have been murdered. Maigret is then called in and observes the drinking companions of the shot man. Very soon, another potential murder is committed by poisoning the customers, but this ...more
