What Members Thought
In 1955 Christianna Brand took Inspector Cockrill, and some other series characters, on holiday to the Island of San Juan el Pirata, where our dogged Inspector was almost thrown into jail for murder. It is now 1957 (a very important year as Paul McCartney met John Lennon, but I digress...) and we are back on the island along with Miss Hat (aka as Miss Harriet Cockrill, the Inspector's sister), Mr Cecil, a dress designer from previous books and Winsome (Winnie) Fulsome, a grown woman and relative

Except that the brooding Grand Duke, El Exaltida, ruler of the island, is against it, thus begins the trouble. Despite the lack of mystery, the story is peopled with highly flamboyant characters and colorful depictio
