Shelves: want-to-reread, reread, audiobook, tbr-with-gr-groups

I’ve read this one several times, always lovely to revisit Cadfael and Shrewsbury. Can’t believe I haven’t reviewed it before.

Here, Cadfael’s Christmas season is a busy one -the civil war between Matilda and Stephen is heating up again, most recently in a brutal attack on Worcester. Refugees are fleeing north and arriving in Shrewsbury, but an orphaned brother and sister and the young nun accompanying them never arrive- they have gone missing in the harsh winter countryside. Civil war is ravaging the countryside and a young boy and his beautiful sister have disappeared in the snow. Brother Cadafel is one of those out looking for them as well as treating a fellow monk from another Benedictine house nearby. Hugh Berengar, the deputy sheriff, is part of the search party but it is Cadfael who discovers the first traces of the missing children.
