My first P.D James. I loved AD for his quiet reserve and for the fact that he is a poet- detective (two irreconcilable vocations some would argue). Compared to Agatha Christie, James is more nuanced in her writing. She gives a lot more importance to characterization- not just of the suspects but also of the sleuthing team, which keeps the pace from flagging. After all a book is only as good as the characters that inhabit it. Would recommend it to all hard core fans of detective/crime fiction :)
