This is a re-read for me. This is the first Brother Cadfael mystery and is an excellent one. Brother Cadfael is accompanying a party of priests as an interpretor to Gwytherin,a small village in Wales, in order to obtain the bones of Saint Winifred after a young priest convinces them that she visited him in a vision and asked to be moved. I have never watched the TV series but did know that Cadfael was a monk from the medieval time. I was glad I started with the first book in the series as it did give glimpses of Cadfael's past. He doesn't seem that devout, but the life seems to suit him, and he doesn't mind about bending the rules when he feels it is necessary.
