What Members Thought

The great critic Julian Symons loved Colin Watson, in fact considered him just about the only consistently brilliant practitioner of the comic crime story. A funny murder mystery is about as near my ideal light reading as its possible to get, so my hopes were high. The setup/blurb sounds rich with comic possibilities, but this was a pretty huge disappointment. It mostly functions as a competent police procedural, albeit a stodgy and langorous one - but where were the jokes? There's a few chuckle

Found this to be rather slow and wordy. Plot was good but took ages of repetition. I would read another by this author but wouldn't be in a hurry.
