This delightful murder mystery is set in 1932. Amory Ames regrets her five year marriage to playboy Milo, who seems to spend his time holidaying without her and appearing in the gossip columns, when she is approached by her ex fiancé Gil Trent. Gil’s sister, Emmeline, is planning to marry Rupert Howe – a man who reminds Gil worryingly of Milo. Gil invites Amory to join a group of friends holidaying at the Brightwell Hotel, as Emmeline and Rupert will both be there, in the hope that she can warn ...more

I would like to read this part romance, part cozy mystery, part period piece, which was recommended by Old Latin Teacher on Amazon. And yet -- maybe I'm just too cheap -- but I am not inclined to fork over $9.99 for an unknown author's debut novel.

Edited to add 6 Jan 2022: Now $2.99 at the Amazon (US) Kindle store.

For those who relish a 1930s mystery a la Christie style with a closed setting populated with a cast of characters, most being wealthy—then this introduction to the Amory and Milo Ames mystery team is one for the list.

I found this novel to be a lot of fun. I liked pretty much everything about it, the setting, the characters, the cover, and the plot. The author presents her main character, Amory as a smart, likeable young woman. I even have to confess to a sneaking likeness for Milo, her husband, despite his apparent shortcomings. I found the entire novel very engrossing and hated to pu ...more

I am reading through this series while I wait for other books to become available at the library. They are just OK: the setting is pretty good, but I don't find the two lead characters to be very believable. Some of the dialogue sounds like it comes out of middle school. But they make for decent bedtime, fall asleep over a novel, reading. :) ...more

Set in Kent, England in 1932, Murder At The Brightwell perfectly captures the tone and flavor of that bygone era. The writing is crisp and flawless. The seaside resort setting is reminiscent of an Agatha Christie novel. Weaver spins a charming tale that kept me glued to my seat turning pages.

I definitely plan to continue reading the series. It reads like chick-lit.

I really enjoyed this mystery featuring Amory Ames and her errant husband, Milo. A little bit of mystery, a little bit of romance, and a lot of fun.
