For some reason I decided to start another marathon historical series again this year. After being totally immersed in Outlander last year, both television viewing and reading the books, the Poldark series (an older and unknown to me series until the PBS series appeared) seemed a good bet since I also enjoy viewing that series as well. I wasn't disappointed with the first book and Ross's return from the war to find things a bit topsy-turvy both at home and in his love life. Plenty of wonderful d

This is my second reading of this book...the last time was many years ago. It is just as good the second time around. Mr. Graham's writing has stood the test of time. His well-crafted characters are just as engaging now as they were when I first read this story. I intend to read the entire series this time round as the second Poldark television series is making its debut. For anyone who loves historical fiction, I highly recommend this series. It captures the essence of Cornwall, England at the

I love this story so much!!! With minor differences (pacing would be a huge one!) the recent BBC show stayed pretty close to the original...so if you loved it, you'll love this too!
The main thing I got from the books is the insight you get from the characters perspectives. On the show, you only get what the actors are able to convey through the script, expressions, etc. Graham gives you a lot more of what's going on inside his characters in the novels.

It's always a bad idea to say "I'll do a proper review later!" because you end up not doing one, often enough. But I definitely needed to give this book a few more words than what I had left below. I was one of those who had never heard of Winston Graham, though I guess the name "Poldark" does ring a faint little bell. I still had no idea what the book was about. I saw it featured in a Book Depository 50% off sale, and so felt impelled to find out what this series was all about.
