For some reason I decided to start another marathon historical series again this year. After being totally immersed in Outlander last year, both television viewing and reading the books, the Poldark series (an older and unknown to me series until the PBS series appeared) seemed a good bet since I also enjoy viewing that series as well. I wasn't disappointed with the first book and Ross's return from the war to find things a bit topsy-turvy both at home and in his love life. Plenty of wonderful d

A little slow in the beginning, but by the time I reached the middle of the book I couldn't put it down! I can't wait until the show premieres in the U.S.

It's always a bad idea to say "I'll do a proper review later!" because you end up not doing one, often enough. But I definitely needed to give this book a few more words than what I had left below. I was one of those who had never heard of Winston Graham, though I guess the name "Poldark" does ring a faint little bell. I still had no idea what the book was about. I saw it featured in a Book Depository 50% off sale, and so felt impelled to find out what this series was all about.

I enjoyed the series on PBS, and the book was good as well. I was afraid it would be more of a romance than novel and was pleasantly surprised. It was an easy read and had a very nice flow. The characters were engaging. The story was developed nicely. I have started the second in the series, so far, so good.
